Mike and Diana Shaw brought us a 1965 Mustang Fastback. This was a steel body car which had been drag raced and then turned into an autocross car for class C Prepared. They wanted to solo the car and possibly turn it into a Saturday night cruiser in the future. This meant that the tube frame approach was out.
The car had a modified engine, transmission, bigger stock brakes and a roll bar extended to the rear of the chassis.
Over a period of three years, we added:
■ Larger Complete Custom 3 piece wheels
■ Carrera shocks
■ Rack and pinion steering kit
■ Modified the front suspension for correct ball joint angularity, camber adjustment and coil over adjustment
■ Changed headers and built a more efficient and quieter exhaust
■ Installed a Black Diamond limited slip and 4.11 gears
■ Completed the roll structure
■ Installed a three link rear with Carrera coil overs and Watts linkage.
Mike installed Lexan windows, graphics and detailed the car and trailer with Diana’s help.
The end result was a very fast and reliable car which they competed in all the way the Solo Nationals.
